The 'everyday' car ride

I know one day I'll look back at these videos and miss ALL the sounds in our car.  This is just a usual day, usual chatter, driving down the road, after eating supper with Mr. John and Mrs. Patsy.

They gave the kids the duck call which was a huge hit.  With the kids. :)

Butter me up

This kid already has it figured out.  He's working on how to butter up mama, and from the looks of it, he's doing a pretty darn good job. :)

When mom gets mad

First, let me set up the scene for you:

Jim is working late.  I'm doing it ALL in the evening.  Not my favorite thing to do, if I must admit.  Feeling a little bit of pressure, then someone does something that just about sends me into orbit while the 4 of us are sitting at the supper table.

But, the little angel sitting on my shoulder sweetly whispered in my ear and reminded me to keep my calm with these two little precious-es.  So I did just that.  Rather than explode, which is what my instinct was, I took a very loooonnnnnnng, deeeeeeeeep, dramatic inhale.  Then, when my lungs became filled with oxygen which then fed my oxygen-deprived brain, I realized how ridiculous I looked and busted out laughing spewing forth the previously inhaled and much needed air.

This is our children's dramatic interpretation of what happened minutes earlier...

One minute I'm ready to blow a gasket and seconds later, they have me in stitches.

The usual chaos

Brandon has taken a liking to ripping paper.  So, I pulled out an old phone book (does anybody still use those?) and gave the kids free reign to start ripping.  What happened amidst the ripping is our "usual chaos."

I love to watch this video and notice the mommy-growth I've experienced.  The wrestling in the background while totally ignoring the words coming out of my mouth seemed to not phase me one bit.  I was pretty sure no one would get seriously hurt, because if they did I could so pull out the, "Well that's what happens when you play rough, guys," comment.  And my focus was more on the videoing process while keeping little curious fingers away from the lens.

Ahhh, siblings.  Just a couple more months and there will be a 3rd little booger in the wrestling mess.

Our little pre-walker

It's crazy ridiculous what us adults will do to make a baby laugh.  All of a sudden, just because there's a mini adult around, we feel we have a license to break out the goofiest sounds, movements, gyrations and gestures just to get a smile out of them.  Could be because that smile makes us feel sooooo good inside.  Who knows.

Mothers are guilty of this also.  Even though they, of all people, should know what makes their baby tick more than anybody else in the world.  It's got to be a strange little world our babies live in when watching us adults.  One moment, we're perfectly adult-like examples, the next moment, delirious craziness overcomes us just 12 inches from their little faces.

I, am no exception to this rule.

Mind you, the focus of this video is supposed to be on his scootin' skills and his walker mastery.  NOT, my crystal-shattering squeals.

Enjoy.

Well, it's official.  I have no idea how to remove that last paper-ripping portion of the video.  Oh well, you'll get to see it again next post.

Heaven-sent

I've told all three of our little precious babies that before they came out of my tummy, they were up in heaven playing with the angels.  So, it's fun to hear what they have to say before speech capabilities and even afterwards when I ask them about what they used to do when they lived up there.

Here's Brandon's take on it:

Did you know the fan could be so interesting?  It is mesmerizing.

Fingers, yum!

Mommy can be funny

Mohawk in the makin'.  Watch out ladies, cause you know I'm bad.

Nathan's wonderful world

At the very end he says "juice." Thought it was cute enough to share.

Saturday, October 17

I can't believe he's 1, already!

What a nice day. It was blistering hot, setting record highs for our area in the middle of October, but the company was wonderful and we enjoyed celebrating our little man's life here with us.His post cup-cake scrub-down, given by Mer, and on to outfit #2.
We had lots of little people to help us celebrate.M, in the pink Barbie Jeep. That was right after he said to Jim, "Uncle Jim, you guys don't have ANY fun toys here at all!" Poor little guy. Don't worry, I won't pull this picture out at a convenient time another 10 years down the road. :)These 3 can be inseparable sometimes. J just came from another BDay party with a superhero theme and I'm pretty sure he insisted on wearing the cape and mask for the car ride to our house.
And check out A's bee-yu-ti-ful blue eyes. She's another cousin and cute as a button. (Notice all the red cheeks? It was HOT!)
We turned the front yard into play central for the little people, and seating for the 'bigger' people.
Uncle R showing some gentle guidance.

The end of the festivities had J, who had arrived from his other BDay Party just minutes before, hooking up a chain out of Papa's toolbox, a real heavy-duty chain, to the back of the pink Barbie Jeep and the front of the John Deere tricycle to pull it around the yard. This is what rednecks do when they live in the city...

I've thought many times, "was it really a year ago I was trying to convince myself those weren't contractions?" I was sure it was only because I hadn't drank enough water for the day, so I drank a lot and couldn't drown away the pain. It was a Sunday night and I was steadily trying to balance the checkbook, pay the bills, update the budget, and complete a record plat, Cedar Key Villas to be exact, while methodically breathing my way through the pain. I thought I might have the baby soon, so I was trying to get it all finished that night. It wasn't for another couple hours that I was convinced it was the real thing. Time to call the neighbor we had planned to watch Katherine if we had to leave in the middle of the night. She came over, witnessed me bearing and breathing through the pain. Jim got himself ready for a hospital night stay, I loaded the car and by the time we got to the labor/delivery room I was 5 centimeters. I got checked in at 11:30pm and he was born at 2:43am. He was ready to see the world and hasn't stopped since.
Nathan Andrew, you are a precious gift from God. Me, Daddy and Katherine are so happy you're a part of our family. We love your contagious smile, your zest for life, your slobbery kisses and your squeals of excitement. Welcome to this world. We hope to make it an enjoyable trip.

Singing HB, fast-moving & Mr. fancy feet

She's getting ready for the BDay party, I'm pretty sure he's trying to run everywhere he goes now, so much that he's walking sideways a lot and now he's trying to add in some fancy footwork.

Neighbors, water & singing

I don't know what's gotten into our sweet little neighborhood. Two years ago we had a house go up for rent and a lady moved in there with her twin toddler daughters. Her situation seemed harmless and most neighbors were ready to help at a moment's notice, but the daughters went to live somewhere else, the delinquent teenage daughter came to live there with her boyfriend, along with a friend, an uncle, the friend's friend and they had people visiting ALL the time. Usually for about 15 minutes then they were gone. After about 8 months of being convinced drugs were involved, and me living in fear while at home with a 9 month old, they finally moved out the house was sold and the home owners live there now.

And today, the drama continued. Another house on our street is causing concern. Around noon, I walked outside to say good-bye to a friend and saw three police cars in front of the troubled house. By the time all was over, there were four police cars, two EMT vehicles, some shouting, handcuffing and tons of speculation.

The three-year-old's take on the whole situation was: "Mommy, I want the police to come to our house."

We really do live in a good neighborhood and good area of town with great neighbors. For some reason though, some minor troubles have settled near us.

On a much lighter note, we enjoyed some water fun today because Gracie needed a bath.
Again, little dude has no fear of the water.

Then, after supper, Katherine had a yogurt pop and decided to share, but first wanted to get a picture with brother. He looks a little apprehensive about the idea.
Cautiously, he takes a bite.
I don't think he's that impressed.

I love it when Katherine wants to sing while playing the piano. Now Nathan has joined in. She's singing "Little ones to him belong."
